Search vs Performance Max vs Shopping: Which One Should You Run?
Google Ads is not one product. It is several. Picking the wrong campaign type is the #1 reason Bangladeshi accounts underperform.
Search Campaigns
Best for: Services, B2B, high-consideration purchases, lead generation.
Ads appear on Google search results when someone types your keywords. You pay per click (CPC). In Bangladesh, CPCs range from ৳8–৳25 for services and up to ৳60–৳120 for high-intent terms like "best lawyer dhaka" or "ielts coaching uttara".
This is where most Bangladeshi service businesses should start.
Performance Max (PMax)
Best for: Ecommerce with a clean product feed, established brands.
PMax automatically runs ads across Search, Display, YouTube, Gmail, and Maps using AI. It is powerful for scaling — but it gives you very little control or visibility. Do not start here. Validate your offer with Search and Shopping first, then layer PMax on top once you have at least 30–50 conversions per month.
Shopping Campaigns
Best for: Ecommerce.
Requires a Google Merchant Center feed (your product catalog). Ads show with images, prices, and your store name on search results. In Bangladesh, Shopping CPCs are usually 30–50% lower than Search for the same product. If you sell physical goods, this is non-negotiable.
Video / YouTube
Best for: Brand building, retargeting, EdTech.
Cheap CPMs (৳15–৳60 in Bangladesh) but lower direct-response performance. Run YouTube only after Search + Shopping are profitable.
Budgeting in BDT: What Google Ads Actually Costs
Unlike Meta, Google Ads needs less budget to learn but more budget to compete. Real-world Bangladesh numbers:

The keyword game in Bangladesh is different from the US for two reasons: language mixing and smaller search volume.
Mix English + Bangla transliteration
Bangladeshi users search both ways. For an EdTech brand, target both:

Use long-tail intent keywords

Negative keywords are non-negotiable
Block "free", "jobs", "internship", "tutorial", "salary" by default. These eat 30–40% of a Bangladeshi service account's budget if left unchecked.
Bid Strategies That Actually Work in 2026
Google has 8+ bid strategies. Only three matter for most Bangladeshi advertisers:
Maximize Conversions (with target CPA)
The default starting point. Set a daily budget and let Google optimize toward the cheapest conversions. Once you have 30+ conversions, layer in a Target CPA.
Maximize Conversion Value (with target ROAS)
For ecommerce only. Requires properly tracked revenue. Once you have 50+ conversions with values, set a Target ROAS about 20–30% above your breakeven.
Manual CPC
Only use this if you are running brand bidding or have very specific keyword-level economics. Most accounts should leave this alone in 2026.
Avoid: Maximize Clicks (incentivises traffic, not buyers), and Enhanced CPC (largely deprecated).
What to Avoid (The Money-Burning Mistakes)
- Auto-applied recommendations. Turn these off in Settings → Recommendations. Google will silently change your match types and bidding behind your back.
- Broad match without conversion data. Broad match is powerful but only when the algorithm has 50+ conversions to learn from. Start with Phrase or Exact.
- Sending all traffic to your homepage. Always build a dedicated landing page for each campaign. Conversion rates double or triple.
- No conversion tracking. If you cannot show Google what a sale or lead looks like, you have no business spending money on it. Set up Google Tag Manager + GA4 + offline conversion imports.
- Running Search + PMax simultaneously without exclusions. PMax will eat your branded Search traffic. Exclude brand keywords in PMax campaigns.
- Bidding on competitor brand names without trademark approval. Common in Bangladesh, often legally fine, but expect high CPCs and low quality scores.
A Realistic 90-Day Google Ads Plan
- Days 1–14: Set up Search campaigns with 3–5 ad groups, tight keyword themes, and high-quality landing pages. Manual CPC or Maximize Conversions.
- Days 15–45: Collect 30+ conversions. Optimize keywords, kill underperformers, add negatives weekly.
- Days 45–75: Move to Target CPA bidding. Add Shopping if you are ecommerce. Start a small retargeting Display campaign.
- Days 75–90: Layer Performance Max on top of Shopping. Begin scaling with 20% weekly budget increases.
Should You Run Google Ads Yourself?
For service businesses spending under ৳30k/month, yes — Google's interface is learnable. For ecommerce, EdTech, or anyone spending over ৳60k/month, the opportunity cost of a bad setup is much higher than what a senior specialist costs.
